No vocabulary word today. We read two "This I Believe" essays: "Finding Out What's Under Second Base" by Lex Urban, and "The Sisterhood of Roller Derby" by Erin Blakemore. Following this, our journal entry was What lessons (good, bad, or otherwise) have you learned through your participation in sports, musical ensembles, or other extracurricular activities? (Use your group of friends growing up if you've never participated in sports/band/etc..)

Following this, we looked at some examples of Book Talks online. NOTE: These book talks do not necessarily meet the requirements for this particular assignment! This assignment has a specific list of requirements (see Wednesday's post) because it is a more formal kind of book talk; the examples are more informal versions, but they do provide an example of the genre so that you have a sense of what your final product might look like.

Below are the examples we viewed. Please note that the last example (for The Hunger Games) is a variation that you must have approved by Mrs. Baker before emulating.

After this, we had time to read.
