Welcome to Issues in Contemporary Literature!

In this class, students will gain a greater understanding of literature, genre, and the effects and uses thereof, through the reading and analysis of works written by contemporary authors, including award-winning texts from authors writing specifically for young adults, encompassing fiction, poetry, drama, and informative texts. They will broaden their literary, academic, and cultural knowledge through highly engaging texts, reading individually, in small literary circles, and as a class, and will annotate and analyze contemporary literature and will compare authors’ purposes based on style, tone, and diction.
During eleventh and twelfth grade, you will earn two credits in literature and two credits in composition. Successful completion of this course will earn you ONE credit in literature. It is designed to meet and exceed the Common Core State Standards in literature for juniors and seniors.
