Mrs. Baker's Class Needs Your Help.
The English department at Columbia High is piloting a new program for the 2012-13 school year, implementing new course content and curriculum in order to improve student engagement, retention, and graduation rates, while meeting the new Common Core State Standards. It's very exciting, and we think it is an indication of a big swing in student-first thinking that will really do amazing things for our children here.
However, we are trying to build new classes - especially new literature classes - without a budget to purchase new, high-interest reading material.
Mrs. Baker spends hundreds of dollars out-of-pocket to purchase fresh books for her students, but she needs your help to keep up with the growing demands of her students, curriculum, and community. And you can help. Here are just a few ways that you can contribute to Mrs. Baker's class:
