You are assigned a compare/contrast paper on Jane Eyre and The Importance of Being Earnest, demonstrating your knowledge of Victorian times and social standards and the evolution of Victorian literature as demonstrated by these two very different pieces. This is your opportunity to show me your very best writing - do a great job! Your seminar is on Tuesday - this is a huge grade! Be prepared! Do your prep sheet! 4A ONLY: Today is your last literary circle meeting. Your book talks are next Tuesday or Thursday - be prepared! This is a HUGE grade. 2A ONLY: Today we took some notes on the Bronte family and began watching Jane Eyre to round out our Victorian Novel unit. 4A ONLY: Today you had your third lit circle meeting. 2A ONLY Today we finished up The Importance of Being Earnest. Following this we began talking about Little Brother. Your homework over spring break is to read and annotate (or journal) Little Brother. This is due by April 6. Please download the "Little Brother" document below. 4A ONLY Today was our second meeting of our Lit Circles. You know what your deadlines are for your group - make sure you are meeting them! In case you need them, I have attached the daily worksheets for each job below. They are in one document; just open it up and print out only the page that you actually need.
2A ONLY Today we read and acted out Act II of The Importance of Being Earnest. Your assignment is to pre-read Act III. 4A ONLY Today was your first Lit Circle meeting. 2A ONLY Today we acted out Act I of The Importance of Being Earnest. It was fantastic! See pictures here. 4A ONLY Today we assembled our Literary Circles (Book Clubs) and explained the process of how this will work. We checked out our books, assigned roles, made reading calendars, and began reading. Today we began learning about the Victorian era of British Literature. For the next several weeks, 2A and 4A will be doing different things - make sure that you are downloading the correct materials for your class. 2A ONLY Please download the notes titled "2AWilde" to make up what you missed today. You will need to get a copy of The Importance of Being Earnest (from the library or online - freely available) and read the first Act of the play. 4A ONLY Please download the notes titled "4ANotes" to make up what you missed today. Today we talked about different Victorian novels, and we indicated our preference for which novel we would like to read. If you were absent, you were assigned a group but are still responsible for the notes.
Today we had our test over the Restoration and Romantic Eras of British Literature. If you were absent, you will need to schedule a time to make up this test. Today your dream poem (inspired by "Kubla Khan") was due. Today we learned about Percy Bysshe Shelley and Lord Byron. Today your Blake-inspired "opposites" poems-and-art were due. Today we looked at the second generation of Romantic Poets, specifically John Keats. Please see the attached notes for information, video links, and the assignment (your own Bucket List, inspired by Keats and his knowledge of impending death). Your dream poem (inspired by "Kubla Khan") will be due on Tuesday, March 6. Your Bucket List will be due on Thursday, March 8; on that day we will take a test over the Restoration and Romantic writers. Please see the attached study guide.
